Organizations

We value the relationship between what happens inside and outside the classroom, and offer our students a wide range of experiences and organizations to choose from. Finding an organization that you are passionate about will help you develop a skill set that can't be beat.

(ALL) COMMunity Service Organization
Created to be a service organization for ALL majors in the College of Communications, COMMunity not only brings us together in service and fun, but also help us see what’s going on in the greater Lexington area beyond UK.

(ALL) UK Debate Team
UK has had a long tradition of excelling at debate. The university’s debate program formed in the 1930s, but didn’t begin competing continuously until 1948. UK debate is among the top debate programs in the nation.

(COM) Communication Honor Society (CHS)
Communication Honor Society provides opportunity to build better relationships with both the University and local communities.  CHS helps develop its members’ communication skills by implementing them in real-life situations.  In addition, students will excel in the academic realm within the University of Kentucky and graduate with prestigious honors.


(COM) Communication Student Association (CSA)
The Communication Student Association (CSA) is an organization designed to help students network with like-minded students. It is open to all majors, but focuses on the Communication major and minor. CSA provides students with many learning resources as well as service and leadership opportunities.


(ISC) Public Relations Society of America (PRSSA)
PRSSA is the Public Relations Student Society of America. We are dedicated to giving students a professional edge on the public relations world by educating them on the practices and ethical standards of PR professionals, providing them with opportunities to network with current pr professionals and PRSA members, and giving them the opportunity to practice PR within the organization.

(ISC) American Advertising Federation (AAF)
Subsidiary group:  Grehan Associates (student-run, full-service Ad agency)
Ad Club, UK's American Advertising Federation College Chapter, serves to provide opportunities for professional development to students pursuing a career in Integrated Strategic Communications.

(JOU) Society of Professional Journalist (SPJ)
The Society of Professional Journalists is dedicated to theperpetuation of a free press as the cornerstone of our nation and our liberty.  The UK student chapter of SPJ works to promote high standards and ethical behavior in the practice of journalism and foster excellence among journalists.  Members will have the chance to work with the professional journalists in the Bluegrass Chapter of SPJ.

(JOU) The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ)
The National Association of Black Journalists is an organization of journalists, students and media-related professionals that provides quality programs and services to advocates on behalf of black journalists worldwide.          



Media Arts and Studies Society (MASS)
MASS was formerly known as Society of Telecommunications Scholars and has changed its name in accordance with the name change of the major from Telecommunications to Media Arts and Studies. The Media Arts and Studies Society (MASS) is an organization which works to provide a central meeting place, serve as a liaison between students, faculty and administration, and enhance the educational experiences and professional preparation of students.
