Welcome to the Division of Instructional Communication! I am so excited to be part of this new and exciting interdisciplinary division of instructional communication in the College of Communications and Information Studies at the University of Kentucky! Instructional Communication is one of the fastest growing interest areas in the communication discipline and for good reasons.
We play an extremely important role in serving undergraduate students by delivering cutting-edge education in integrated communication skills (which are among the top skills sought by employers of college undergraduate students in all fields of study).
Our research is valuable for improving pedagogy within traditional classroom settings within the college and across the university, as well as beyond them when we collaborate with colleagues studying, for example, risk and crisis communication, interpersonal communication, mass communication, health communication, agriculture, business, education, and engineering.
Not only that, our graduate students go on to become faculty members serving as basic course directors, directors of communication centers and labs, as well as directors of communication across the curriculum (CXC) and communication in the disciplines (CID) programs. We serve the needs of the 21st century in ways that really make a difference both at the university and beyond it. To me, that’s what it’s all about.
Dr. Deanna Sellnow, Division Director and Professor
