Exit Requirements

Both degrees (MS & MA) require LIS 600, 601, 602 and 603. Additionally, a technology requirement must be met by taking one of the following four courses: LIS 636, 637, 638, 668.

MS degree:
36 hours
GPA of 3.0 or better
Successful completion of portfolio project (may be a final exam for students admitted prior to Fall 2011; for sample comps questions, click here. For sample comprehensive exam answers, click here.)

MA degree:
Plan A
42 credit hours
6 hours in a cognate area
GPA of 3.0 or better
Successful completion of thesis

Plan B
42 credit hours
6 hours in a cognate area
GPA of 3.0 or better
Successful completion of portfolio project

The ALA student group sponsored a discussion session on April 28 to answer questoins about the new portfolio. The portfolio will be required of all students who are admitted in Fall of 2011 and after. Students currently enrolled will have the option to do the porfolio or the final exam (comps) as their exit evaluation. Below is video from the discussion.
